For drawing a week's worth of strips and a pinup you receive fifty dollars and a
large portion of all net profits generated from the sale of your work.
Funky Ninja Comics keeps the rights to the characters and strips, because not being able to use recurring
characters or archives would be bad.
Multiple artists are needed to reach the goal of a strip a
day.
The effort for week's worth of strips is comparable to two to four pages of
a regular comic book.
The pay is the same for an artist or an art team.
For lettering a week's worth of strips you get seven dollars.

The Art:
|
|
|
You keep the originals. If you would like to sell the originals FNC will make every
effort to assist you. (links to your site, eBay, mentioning it on the front page,
etc.)
Strips are inked.
Colors optional. If you think it would look better then by all means run with it.
Strips one through six are 3.6" high x 11.33" wide @ 300 dpi
Strip seven is 7.2" high x 11.33" wide @ 300 dpi.
These dimensions are chosen so that when the work is printed in anthology form a
weeks worth of strips fits on two pages.
Preferred strip and pinup formats are Paintshop Pro or Photoshop. I can handle Jpegs
and Gifs, but I would rather not, as these do not lend themselves to lettering.
The pin-up must have the following dimensions:
10in by 10in at 300 DPI. Why? Because it will fit on a shirt. If you want to create
multiple pinups than please do. I will happily put up to 3 pinups on shirts, lunch
boxes and the like. If items are selling we can do even more.

The Scripts:
|
|
|
Basically I look at your samples and match up or write a script that I think would look nice with
your style. If the script doesn't feel right for you then let me know, and I will
try to accommodate. I have a script for just about every style.
|
|
The Economics:
|
|
|
When people start coming to the site the following will happen:
The pinup will be combined with the magic of CafePress.com to create the
merchandise. From this will come the net profit. The payout on items sold through
Cafepress.com is 65% to the artist or art Team, and 5% to the applicable letterer.
Not all items
will be made for each pinup. You will receive a quarterly check for your sales,
providing that amount is greater than 5 dollars. (Unless it costs > 2 dollars to send you
the money, which will be handled case by case). If the amount accrued is less than
five dollars then it will be added to the total for the next quarter. This will
continue until the end of time or the items are removed from the merchandise catalog.
For items not sold through Cafepress.com the artist will receive 65% of the net profit, the letters 5%.
If
there are multiple art teams on an item (such as a book) they will split the 65%
based on representation within the item (i.e. pages). Letters will split the 5%.
The FNC logo and any marketing
within the item do not count towards the split.

|
The Rights:
|
|
|
FNC hopes to use these characters until it turns old and gray. FNC gets the
character rights for all characters scripted by FNC regardless of artwork acceptance.
FNC gets the copyright on all art accepted by FNC. You keep the originals.

|
The Process:
|
|
|
Step 1 - You - You express interest and direct me to your samples.
Step 2 - Me - I respond.
Response 1 - I would like to work with you, here is a script.
Response 2 - I would like to work with you, but don't have a script for you.
- When I have the right script we advance to step 3.
Response 3 - I will defer.
Step 3 - You - Read the script.
Response 1 - provide me with an estimate as to how long it
will take you to complete, given the current state of your life/job/class load/
family.
Response 2 - I like it but...
Response 3 - Politely decline.
Step 4 - Me - Send a contract, with a completion date based on the estimate provided.
Step 5 - You - Send back a signed contract.
Step 6 - You - Send roughs.
Step 7 - Me - Look at roughs. We go forward
Step 8 - You - Send 7 strips, pinup, and information for artist bio.
Step 9 - Me - Accept and move to Step 10 or Decline and move back to step 8.
Step 10 - Me - Send the agreed upon fee (50USD) via paypal (in US/Can I can also send
a money order).
Step 11 - Me - Post strips in first appropriate opening in the schedule.
Step 12 - Me - Generate Merchandise via CafePress.com.
Step 13 - Me - Quarterly check with proceeds from sales of merchandise featuring your
art.
The process can be stopped by either party at any point from Step 1 to 4.
If a good faith effort is made but we fail to come to an accord after the roughs are provided
15 dollars will be provided for your time and effort, and the script will be pulled and given
to another artist.

|
Acceptance:
|
|
|
When the work is submitted as complete I will make sure that it is correct for the site.
I will check dimensions, file size, and general appropriateness (i.e. no background characters
doing horrible things to sheep, the work looks good, it matches the script).
If all is well the work is accepted.
